28thJune - 1st July
The main task for this weekend was to try and sort out the gutter problems that have caused staining on the paintwork that so many people worked really hard at in previous working parties and also to try something that would give the shower doors a longer life.
I was joined by members Simon and Linda Robson who kindly volunteered to assist. I headed up on the 24th just to maximise the opportunity for good weather.
The good weather duly arrived for me and it stayed not just nice but hot until it broke again on Thursday afternoon. However, this did allow me to take the gutters down give them a clean-up, slap a bit of paint on them and the fascia and get them back up and re levelled whilst it was dry.
I had also brought up with me a tub of masonry paint to cover the rust stains on the kitchen wall and I managed to get the whole front and both gable elevations painted thanks to good weather.
Hopefully the stain won’t leach through!
Simon and Linda duly arrived as promised on Saturday and promptly set about hanging the new doors that Simon had purchased and prepared before arrival.
Simon had come up with the idea of lining the back of the shower doors with a plastic sheet and they do look nice and smart even though the extra thickness of the doors caused a bit more work hanging them. We’ll see how this improvement fairs and then probably repeat this on the ground floor shower doors. Simon and Linda also managed to paint the doors, tidy away some painting stuff and adjust all the door closers.
Whilst Simon was working on the doors, Linda got stuck into the garden giving it a good weeding and tidy up and giving the grass a haircut.
May working party Raven crag
The May working party had a focus on painting room 4, a bigger job than you might imagine.
A big thanks to John, Vince and Ian Burton for getting stuck into this task and completing it, transforming the room. Of course folk always do more than was expected and the grass had a haircut and the garden a good tidy up.
A big thanks to the extra volunteer members for their assistance, Ian Burton, Simon and Linda Robson. Hopefully we can get more help from members in the future.
